When two versions disagree
Choose what to keep when RareSync and your store both changed the same item.
What a disagreement is
A disagreement happens when the same field changed in two places before the next sync. You renamed an item in RareSync, someone renamed it in Square, and now there are two answers to the same question.
RareSync will not guess. Either you pick, or a rule you set earlier picks for you.
Why it happened
Almost always one of these:
- You edited an item here and someone edited it in your store the same day.
- You edited on your phone while a colleague edited on the shop computer.
- Your store changed something itself, such as rounding a price.
It is normal in a shop where two people touch stock. It is not a sign anything broke.
Pick which version to keep
When items are waiting, a Conflicts Detected card appears at the top of the Sync screen with a count.
- Choose Resolve Conflicts.
- Pick an item from the list. You will see In RareSync and On the Platform side by side.
- Choose Keep RareSync's Version or Keep the Platform's Version.
The item goes back to syncing normally once you decide.
Keep some of each
Sometimes both sides are right about different things. Your description is better, their price is the one on the shelf.
Choose Choose Field By Field. You get a row per disagreeing field with a choice on each one. Set them how you want, then choose Save My Choices.
Decide once and stop being asked
Each store has a Conflict Resolution setting on its card in Sync, with three choices:
- Ask Me Each Time. Nothing is overwritten. Both versions wait for you on the Conflicts screen.
- Keep RareSync's Version. Your RareSync edit is the one that sticks.
- Keep Square's Version (or Shopify's). Your store's edit is the one that sticks.
Read this before you change it. The two automatic options overwrite one side without telling you, every time, and the version they discard is gone. If you want to see what you are giving up, stay on Ask Me Each Time.
Automatic is the right choice when one side is genuinely the master copy, and you already know which. If you are unsure, you are not ready to set it.
