What syncs, and what does not
The item fields RareSync sends to Square and Shopify, and the ones it keeps back.
Some of an item goes to your store. Some of it stays here. This page is the honest list, so you know what to fill in somewhere else.
What we send
Seven fields make the trip. They land under different names on each platform, which is normal, and is what Match up your fields is for.
| In RareSync | In Square | In Shopify |
|---|---|---|
| Product Name | Item Name | Title |
| Description | Description | Description |
| SKU | SKU | SKU |
| Price | Price | Price |
| Category | Category | Product Type |
| Tags | Labels | Tags |
| Images | Images | Images |
Name, SKU and price are the three we cannot send an item without. An item missing any of them will not go over.
What we never send
Barcode, weight and size dimensions do not sync. You can store all three on an item in RareSync and they stay here.
That is worth planning around. If your shop needs barcodes on its listings, set them in Square or Shopify and expect to keep doing that. Do not wait for RareSync to carry them over.
What comes back to us
Whether anything comes back is your choice, on the Sync Direction row of each store's card.
- Import Only: your store is the source. Changes there flow into RareSync.
- Export Only: RareSync is the source. Your catalog is pushed to your store.
- Import and Export: both directions.
Import and Export is the one that can produce a disagreement, when the same item changed in both places. See When two versions disagree before you turn it on.
Catalog changes move when you ask
Whichever direction you choose, a catalog sync starts when someone presses Sync Now. Nothing runs on a schedule and nothing runs overnight.
See Send your items to your store.
A sale is the one thing that moves on its own
Sell something on a connected Square and Square tells us without waiting for Sync Now. We mark the item sold and take its listing down wherever else you listed it. If you keep a count on the item, the count drops instead, and the listing only comes off once the count reaches zero.
Shopify does not report sales to us yet. Something rung up there leaves your other listings alone, so take those down yourself.
